About the Product
An international authority of paper and Senior Conservator for Paper at the Winterthur Museum, John Krill has written a detailed and interesting account of the evolution and types of paper available to artists in England from the Renaissance to the early nineteenth century.
The first chapter provides the basic information needed to understand hand papermaking and discusses each of the paper types. The second chapter introduces the three major types of paper produced: white, brown, and blue. The third focuses on new products, especially papers for printing and drawing. The last chapter explores the influx of new artists' paper that occurred around the year 1800.
This second expanded and revised edition has 100 additional pages of text and 100 new illustratons. Co-published with the Winterthur Museum.
