About the Product

Product Description The book presents speeches, comments, biographical sketches, background information, stories, and recommendations drawn from the Millennium Conferences on Creativity in the Arts and Sciences, a series of events staged in 1999 and 2000 to help Canada mark the arrival of the new Millennium. The Governor General, Nobel Laureates, and national and international leaders from the arts and sciences communities call for new alliances between the disciplines, new forms of multidisciplinary collaboration, risk-taking, and long-term commitments. The events covered by the book include the Symposium on Creativity and Innovation staged at the 2000 Congress of the Social Sciences and Humanities in Edmonton and the centrepiece event Creativity 2000. About the Author Richard I. (Dick) Doyle, Project Manager for the Millennium Conferences on Creativity in the Arts and Sciences, graduated from the University of Guelph (Bachelor of Arts (Mathematics Major)) in 1973 and from the University of Ottawa (Certificate in Business Administration) in 1987, has headed a number of special projects and science awareness initiatives since joining the corporate offices of the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) in 1987. A founder and start-up manager in successful technology and public relations businesses, a former broadcaster and journalist, published humor writer and contest winner, Mr. Doyle has contributed to many conferences, books, articles, and TV and radio programs on science issues. Mr. Doyle is a former Chief of Staff and Chief Policy Advisor to the Minister of Science and Technology and the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans and has been involved in national science policy issues for close to two decades. He is a two-time winner of NRC's national Outstanding Achievement Award and has received other awards and national honors for his role in founding the Canadian Science and Engineering Hall of Fame and gaining recognition for Canada's pioneering work in computer animation technology at the 1997 Academy Awards (TM).
